Photo editing at Pauls Studio
Photo editing is a large component of photography. At Pauls Studio there is a huge amount of ‘behind the scenes’ activity before a clients images are ready to view.
Editing the image in dedicated software transforms it into the final art piece that the client will view. Pauls Studio’s spend hours editing and perfecting the photographs from each photo shoot or wedding to enable the viewer to see the image in its best possible outcome.
Today we would like to give you an insight into the certain processes that this may involve.
Cropping
Primarily the first thing we do when photo editing is to crop the image.
The way an image is cropped can completely change the composition, for example, a tightly cropped portrait can have a very strong impact if the viewer is drawn toward the eyes of the subject, however if the image is to include a context and surrounding landscape the impact may be drawn from the overall feel of the image.
You can see below that by cropping the image tightly the eye is immediately drawn toward the bride & groom rather than the surrounding landscape.

Colour images
Initially when treating a colour image the editor will colour balance the image to ensure the best skin tones.
The image may then be adjusted to increase contrast, or boldness depending on the style if the final outcome intended.

Black & white images
Black & white photo editing creates images that have a timeless and classic quality. By omitting the colour, more focus is imparted on the subject and any emotion or story within the image.
This is illustrated particularly well on the image below, The veiwer is immediately drawn toward the girls as they are the ‘highlight’ area of the image, a slight vignette surrounding also adds to accentuate this effect.

Vintage style images
Another method of photo editing that can transform an image is to use a vintage effect. In this method of editing the opacity of the colour is lowered within the image.
This image effect can be used with great results on classic looking studio portraits and on vintage themed weddings.
The wedding image below works wonderfully with this photo editing, as it enhances the texture of the brickwork and the detail in the beautiful dress.

Airbrushing
Airbrushing is a fantastic photo editing method; allowing us to adjust any photographs and remove anything that the subject may want to be softened.
A major benefit of airbrushing is removing spots, blemishes and scars. As you can see below the difference we can make by removing blemishes can really improve the image. We also use a small amount of airbrushing on family portraits to remove dribble etc
